Tony P. Trujillo

Tony Trujillo is Director of Government Relations, New Mexico Operations for Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold, formerly Phelps Dodge Mining Company. He is a graduate of Western New Mexico University.

He has held several key leadership positions by appointment of the Governor utilizing his many areas of expertise. Currently he serves as chair of the Board of Regents of Western New Mexico University. He served on the Higher Education Cabinet Secretary search committee and as a member of the Governor’s Task Force on Higher Education. He also served as a commissioner of the New Mexico Economic Development Commission. And has served as a member of the New Mexico Border Authority and of the Mine Safety Advisory Board.

Tony’s leadership and service extends to other organizations throughout the state, including past chair of the board of the Association of Commerce and Industry, executive board member of the New Mexico Tax Research Institute, member of New Mexico Amigos, past president of the New Mexico Mining Association, past chair of New Mexico First and alumni member and past board member of Leadership New Mexico. Tony serves currently on the board for the Golden Apple Foundation.

In his community Tony served on the Chamber of Commerce board and as a member of the Silver City Rotary Club. He was the chair of the Grant County Community Health Council and past president of the board for the Silver City Grant County Economic Development organization. He is a force of business and community leadership in Western New Mexico and was recognized in 2006 by the Silver City-Grant County Chamber of Commerce as the “Citizen of the Year.”.
