Sherman McCorkle

The New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Awards Lifetime Achievement Award recipient for 2006 is Sherman McCorkle.
Sherman is a true friend and advocacy voice for New Mexico . Currently Sherman is President and Chief Executive Office of Technology Ventures Corporation and has served in this capacity since the company’s inception in 1993. He currently serves as a National Jewish Medical Research Center Trustee; as Chairman of the Board of the Science and Technology Park Development Corporation; and as a director of the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce and the Albuquerque Economic Development Association.


“Sherman McCorkle is involved in New Mexico twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. He cares about the people, the businesses and the State, and it is obvious in everything he does,” says Stuart Purviance, Executive Director of the Kirtland Partnership Committee.

Sherman has been the recipient of the Industrial Developer of the Year by the NMIDEA; the Albuquerque People’s Choice Favorite Community Leader Award, the Martin Luther King Freedom Award, the Rupert Hernandez Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, the National Jewish Medical and Research Center Centennial Humanitarian Award among many others. Loretta Armenta, Qwest CEO and longtime friend of Sherman says “Sherman has become a pillar in our community and State by always making himself available to resolve issues that impact citizens in New Mexico. He has spent most of his life dedicating his time and resources around education, technology and economic development in New Mexico.”

Sherman has served on dozens of non-profit boards and committees. He was voted by his peers as the most influential businessman in New Mexico. Thank you Sherman for your unwavering commitment to move New Mexico and its citizens forward.
