New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Awards 2003
Recognizing Those Committed to Making a Difference
Dan Mayfield
Mr. Mayfield, in his position as Comptroller for Bernalillo County, has been honored professionally with 5 distinguished budget presentation awards from 1999 - 2003; 4 excellence in financial reporting awards; and 6 years of the State of New Mexico Budget Awards.
He is responsible for monitoring the country's 300 million-dollar budget. Because of Bernalillo County's strong fiscal policy and financial reporting, its bond rating improved from AA to AA+, the highest rating for any county in New Mexico. This results in lower interest rates for county bonds which allows for a greater portion of bond funds to be spent for county projects instead of for debt service.
Dan manages the County's current finances with an overriding con- cern for its long-term financial health. He maintains a thirty-year, long-range debt analysis to ensure that the County will have the necessary future resources to remain financially stable.
His peers attest to his personal and professional integrity and ethics. He brings the same level of concern and integrity to other organiza- tions when he volunteers or is appointed to serve in an oversight or Board position.
He served as President of the Albuquerque Speech, Language and Hear- ing center for 6 years; as Trustee of Bernalillo County Mental Health Center; as a board member for New Mexico County Insurance Au- thority; as Bernalillo County Housing Authority Commissioner; and with United Way.
