Brig. Gen. Alex Garcia
General Garcia has devoted himself to the public service as a member of the New Mexico National Guard.
For the past 12 years, General Garcia has been involved with the National Guard Counterdrug Support Program. He has been welcomed at countless schools throughout the state, personally delivering his anti-drug message. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Governor's Drug Enforcement Advisory Council, a member of the Board of Directors of the Governor's Cooperative Agreement Advisory Committee, the New A Mexico State Police Athletic League (PAL), and the New Mexico Senior Olympics. General Garcia is actively involved with the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce as well.
General Garcia initiated the "Don't Let Your Guard Down" program to involve the New Mexico National Guard in the statewide effort to reduce DWIs. Each Christmas season he works with the community of Taos in their highly successful "Taos Feeds Taos" program. Over the past several years this program has distributed over 900 food baskets per year.
Some 10 years ago, he developed "Guardians of the Children", a program designed to provide clothing and toys for neglected and abused children in the Santa Fe area. Today, this program attracts many other agencies in New Mexico and has provided a "Merry Christmas" for over 140 children in the Santa Fe area.
General Garcia has been a driving force behind the success of the New Mexico Senior Olympics, serving on the Board of Directors for the past several years.
