Joseph L. Mendoza
Joseph L. Mendoza's efforts go far beyond his work at New Mexico VA Healthcare Systems. For over 30 years, Mr. Mendoza has been an active volunteer with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in New Mexico, serving as President of the Executive Committee in 1990 and was Secretary of the Executive Committee three years. He has taken the role of patient counselor and senior counselor during MDA Summer Camp functions and other events. In the past 20 years, he has participated in the annual MDA Labor Day Telethon as floor director, telephone supervisor, as well as trainer, briefer, interpreter, and conflict monitor for over 300 personnel during the telethon.
He has served as Chairperson for the American Legion Post #13 Scholarship Committee, Chairperson of the Oratorical Speech Competition for High School Youth, and has recently volunteered for the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program.
Mr. Mendoza volunteered to read "My Abuelito's White Madonna", a story about his grandparents, to residents of the Grand Manor Retirement Community along with other retirement homes.
